“..still a role for humans in this”: Elon Musk on AI-led future – Times of India

Must read

Elon Musk has said that artificial intelligence (AI) will take all our jobs and in the future, doing a job will be “optional”, as per a report by CNN. Musk, who owns AI company xAI, said that this development is not necessarily a bad thing. He said humans will still have a role in the AI-led world.
“Probably none of us will have a job,” Musk said about AI at VivaTech 2024 in Paris.
“If you want to do a job that’s kinda like a hobby, you can do a job. But otherwise, AI and the robots will provide any goods and services that you want,” Musk said, who has shared clips of Optimus, also known as Tesla Bot, several times.
Musk also questions whether humans will feel emotionally fulfilled in a job-free future.
“The question will really be one of meaning – if the computer and robots can do everything better than you, does your life have meaning?”. I do think there’s perhaps still a role for humans in this – in that we may give AI meaning,” he said.

“No shortage of goods or services”

However, for this scenario to work, he said that there is a need to be “universal high income” as opposed to universal basic income, which refers to the government giving a certain amount of money to everyone regardless of their jobs.
“There would be no shortage of goods or services,” he added.
As AI capabilities surge, consumers are still adapting to the changing technology. At the same time, regulators and companies are figuring out how to use the technology responsibly.
Other tech executives like Sam Altman, who is the CEO of ChatGPT-maker OpenAI, and Google chief executive have hinted that AI will take away some jobs but will create more of them of different nature.
