History was made during Brown University’s game against the Bryant Bulldogs on Friday. Olivia Pichardo made history as she became the first woman to play in an NCAA Division I baseball game for the Bears. Unfortunately, Pichardo grounded out to the first baseman on the first pitch, but she still made history nonetheless.

The freshman utility player hails from Queens, New York, and is a Mets fan. Pichardo completed an internship in the New York Mets’ amateur scouting department in 2022. That same summer, she joined the USA Baseball Women’s National Team.
Pichardo was the first woman to make an NCAA Division I roster, but she hadn’t appeared in a game for Brown until Friday.
The official MLB account got in on the congratulations on Twitter.
From the MLB Breakthrough Series to the USA Baseball Women’s National Team to Brown University,” wrote the official MLB account. “Congratulations to Olivia Pichardo on becoming the first woman to play in a Division I college baseball game!”
