Sarasota County high school ranks as best in state. See where other Florida schools listed

A Sarasota County high school is top of its class, according to state rankings.

Pine View School rated the best public high school in Florida among 1,169 schools in 2024 U.S. News & World Report rankings. Pine View also ranked No. 18 among all high schools across the nation, according to the ratings.

U.S. News and World Report scored schools on college readiness (30%), college curriculum breadth (10%), state assessment proficiency (20%), state assessment performance (20%), underserved student performance (10%) and graduation rate (10%) to determine the rankings.

Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy in Broward County, Westshore Junior/Senior High School in Brevard County, Archmedean Upper Conservatory Charter School in Miami-Dade County, Stanton College Preparatory School in Duval County, Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School in Brevard County, Marine Academy of Science and Technology in Miami-Dade County, Jose Marti-Mast 6-12 Academy in Miami-Dade County, Design and Architecture Senior High School in Miami-Dade County, and Alexander W. Dreyfoos Junior School of the Arts in Palm Beach County rounded out Florida’s top 10.

Suncoast Polytechnical High School and Riverview High School joined Pine View as Sarasota County high schools in the state’s top 100 at No. 37 and No. 71, respectively.

Pine View serves students in grades 2-12, with a total population of 1,745 and a high school population of 695. The school offers college readiness courses for gifted students, and it was ranked the seventh-best magnet high school in the country.

Of the three Sarasota County schools that cracked Florida’s top 100, Riverview’s high school population is the largest with 2,589, and Suncoast Polytechnical’s is the smallest at 585.

Pine View scored a 99.9 out a possible 100 in U.S. World and News’ assessment, with only its reading proficiency of 99% below 100% in the scored categories. Pine View has a 100% graduation rate, science proficiency score and math proficiency score, and 100% of its high school students both took and passed at least one AP Exam.

The school regularly receives awards and recognition locally and nationally. Maggie Higgins, a seventh-grade foreign language teacher at Pine View, is a finalist for the Sarasota County Teacher of the Year, which the district will announce Dec. 12.
