While the NBA has been in existence for nearly 76 years, the loss of any legend is hard to swallow. But, throughout the course of history, only 4 MVP winners have met their demise. Each was, without question, one of the greatest players ever. However, none was quite as unstoppable or physics-defying as the one that Kevin Garnett chose to honor. Moreover, an almost inhuman feat of athleticism is what drew the Boston Celtics legend.

In a heartfelt message, Garnett paid homage to the most statistically dominant player in NBA history.

If the question is basketball dominance, the answer is Wilt Chamberlain. Even though other names have taken the league by storm, none had a stranglehold quite like The Stilt. During his time, Chamblerain set or broke virtually every record in existence. Some, stand to this day and are truly unbreakable. But, his dominance and unrivaled athleticism were a feature long after his prime as well.

Another candidate for the GOAT title, Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, possesses a truly unstoppable shot. However, in a resurfaced clip, Wilt easily blocks the iconic sky-hook prompting KG’s appreciation.

Taking to his IG story, Kevin Garnett had a strong message in support of Wilt Chamberlain. While he paid his respects, “RIP Wilt”, the big man’s defensive prowess had made him a fan. “Ohhh sh*t…HE BLOCK THAT…just so you know the ‘Sky Hook’ was UNSTOPPABLE.” 

One of the greatest defensive players in NBA history and a former DPOY winner, KG could surely appreciate Wilt’s defensive instincts.

It isn’t the first time that the Minnesota Timberwolves legend has been appreciative of the only man to score 100.

The Life and Times of Wilt Chamberlain

Earlier in the year, KG shared his excitement over the announcement of a documentary about the 2-time NBA Champion. ‘Goliath’ was released in July 2023. As you can imagine, it took three parts to cover the legend’s life.

Whether it was ridiculous claims about his promiscuity or shattering every record known to mankind, The Big Dipper still remains one of one. While scoring 50 is a cause for celebration for most, Wilt coolly averaged the same for an entire season.

He holds at least 73 records for the NBA. A legend in his own right and former teammate Billy Cunningham once said, “The NBA Guide reads like Wilt’s personal diary.” To this day, that fact stands true. However, Chamberlain’s was a life cut short tragically.

After repeated cardiovascular issues from 1993 onwards, the stress reached a fever pitch. A rapidly deteriorating condition saw him drop 50 pounds with a constant pain in his body. Unfortunately, on October 12, 1999, Chamberlain died in his Bel Air estate at the age of 63.

Later, autopsies revealed that it was congestive heart failure that was the cause. As the world gets ready to celebrate a true icon, here’s an ode to Wilt The Stilt Chamberlain. RIP.
