The Miami Heat have been among the most aggressive teams this summer. As Pat Riley looks to improve his team’s title chances, he is considering all options available to him at the moment.
As it turns out, Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell could be available for the right price, and Riley has already started his pursuit of both players. Sadly, things haven’t been going so great on either trade front.
According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, Miami is still far from a deal for Mitchell/Durant, despite still being somewhat in the race.
[Tyler Herro] has reached this strange point just as he becomes the key veteran in any potential Miami Heat trade package for Kevin Durant, Donovan Mitchell, or whichever star becomes available next. The Heat so far have not gotten much traction on either front, sources say, but they are still trying and can never be counted out.
Of course, the Heat would rather have KD. His scoring capabilities and skillset as a whole would drastically increase their odds of winning a championship, and that’s all that the Heat are aiming for.
Amid all the trade noise, Bam Adebayo admitted what a gift Durant would be for the squad.
“It is what it is, control what you can control,” said Adebayo. “Obviously, it’s an opportunity for something, but in my opinion, control what you can control. I can’t control that. So do what I’ve been doing. I get up early. I work out. Having fun with these kids. And I’m going to go home and go to sleep.”
It remains to be seen if the Heat have what it takes to come out of all this with what they want. At the very least, it will cost them two of their best young players and several draft picks.
Either way, they have a long way to go before anything gets finalized.
