Gurgaon: With
MCG elections coming up, former city councillors whose terms ended in November of last year met urban local bodies (ULB) minister Kamal Gupta on Thursday and raised issues faced by residents the licensed colonies taken over by the corporation nine months ago.
They said despite the takeover, residents continue to face hardships due to lack of basic services like roads, sewerage, streetlights and water supply. The minister took note of the problems faced by each colony and assured the ex-councillors that tenders will soon be floated to begin work on deficient infrastructure in colonies.
Urging officials to cause no further delay, the minister directed the engineering wing officials to begin work on augmenting the deficient infrastructure in these colonies.
“The licensed colonies taken over by the MCG should be provided with civic amenities of water, sewerage, street lights, roads besides other services. These services should be provided to the residents in a timely manner so that the purpose of takeover is fulfilled,” said Gupta.
A total of 10 councillors met the minister and raised the issues of the colonies. “It is MCG’s responsibility to provide civic services to the residents of these colonies. However, there is a perpetual delay on the part of MCG officials which we discussed with the ULB minister,” said former councillor Kuldeep Yadav.
The ad-hoc committee reconstituted by the ULB department has approved the delimitation draft, which is now awaiting the final nod from the state government. The elections are likely to be held in May.
MCG took over seven licensed colonies — Malibu Towne, Ardee City, Rosewood City, Sushant Lok-2 and 3, Vipul World and Uppal Southend — on June 15 last year, and Greenwood City on August 29 last year. Since the takeover, it is the MCG’s responsibility to provide essential services like water, sewer, roads etc. to the residents of these colonies.
According to DTCP, the estimated cost to complete deficient infrastructure work in Sushant Lok-2 is Rs 8.5 crore and Sushant Lok-3 is Rs 10.38 crore, Rs 10.93 crore for Ardee City, Rs 14.7 crore for Malibu Towne, Rs 14.3 crore for Greenwood City.
