Lubbock business news includes rock climbing, eggs, more

Must read

Hello A-J readers!

The holiday week slowed openings, but there were still some big announcements. Here are the highlights, and what is coming up next.

Cece McCasland, whose husband is Texas Tech Men’s Basketball Coach Grant McCasland, will achieve a dream in the new year. Her family, along with the two other partner families sharing in ownership of inSPIRE Rock, will bring an indoor rock climbing gym to 6703 Yonkers Ave. It is tentatively set to open in Lubbock in the late summer or early fall of 2025.

“It’s just literally a dream come true,” Cece McCasland said. “The last few years, we would go to the Spring and Cypress gyms and I loved their gym, more than any other gym. I would go in their gym and think, ‘this is different.’ I know now why. It’s the people, it’s the founding principles, how they live their lives and how they love on each other. I missed it.”

Moving from openings to closings, one of the area farms known for eggs will close by the end of the year. Alcove Farms, 7919 4th St., will try to have eggs available in stores and for pickup until Christmas. The farm attributed rising costs as the reason behind the closure.

“After much prayer and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close all operations at Alcove Farms at the end of 2024,” the statement reads. “Producing high-quality, natural products using regenerative farming practices is a labor of love, but it has become increasingly difficult to continue due to rising costs.”

I’ll be looking into several developments next week, so stay tuned.

As always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
