PESHAWAR: Health experts at a conference here on Monday called upon lady doctors to take up cardiac surgery as career and play role in provision of diagnostic and treatment services to people in the country.
“We need to encourage female medics to pursue specialisation in cardiac surgery. Female doctors are very important to become cardiac surgeons,” Prof Syed Shahkar Ahmad Shah, chief executive officer of Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC), told the concluding ceremony of the three-day conference, according to a press release.
The event was organised by PIC with the help of Pakistan Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons (PACVTS). Speakers from around the globe and Pakistan addressed the cnference.
Dr Shahkar said highlighted the achievements of PIC, which received numerous national and international honours within a short span of three years. He commended the participation of cardiovascular and thoracic health experts from Pakistan and abroad in the conference.
The conference featured presentations on cutting edge and novel cases related to heart diseases, providing a platform for knowledge exchange. Renowned thoracic surgeons conducted live surgeries besides presentations by experts on various topics in the conference.
The theme of the conference was ‘Empowering quality through collaboration for a bright future in cardiac surgery’. Speakers highlighted importance of such gatherings in fostering networking, collaboration and establishing professional relationships.
The participants of the conference said that such events promoted networking and collaboration, fostering opportunities for future cooperation, research projects and leadership roles.
Prof Hasanat, the president of Pakistan Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, expressed his satisfaction over the successful conference. He acknowledged the efforts of PIC in bringing together experts and professionals from various institutions and organisations to promote exchange of knowledge.
Topics covered in the conference included adult cardiology, adult cardiac surgery, paediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery profusion and anaesthesia.
Appreciation certificates were distributed to recognise the contributions of the people involved in organising and executing the event. Speakers emphasised the significance of empowering women to pursue careers in surgery, addressing gender imbalances within the profession.
