JORDANE DOOKIE will make her seasonal bow at international level this week.
The Trinidad and Tobago player will be competing in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Junior Tournament in Guatemala.
The two-day qualifying draws will conclude today, and the 18 and under main draws of the Grade IV competition will commence tomorrow.
Dookie ended last season with a bang when she combined with Serena Bryan to capture her first ITF doubles title at that level in Barbados at the beginning of November.
The 16-year-old, who won four doubles titles – including three alongside the Barbadian – and reached three singles semi-finals at a lower level – Grade V – in ITF tournaments in August, is now ranked #822 in the world in juniors.
Dookie is the 12th highest-ranked player in this week’s girls’ field, which is headed by Kayla Brianna Moore, an American with T&T roots who is ranked 327th.
The 15-year-old captured the singles title in an ITF junior tournament in Trinidad last year and combined with compatriot Ligaya Murray to lift the doubles trophy.
The ambidextrous Murray is also playing this week and she is third on the list – at #412.
Dookie, who began the season representing UWI Club in the National Interclub Championships a few weeks ago, will next play at home in the Tranquillity Open Tournament at the end of the month.
