European-based trainer Charlie Appleby will try to deny Chad Brown a victory in the Diana Stakes for the second straight year when he sends out Irish bred Creative Flair in the 2022 Diana Stakes on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Last year Appleby finished first and second in the Diana, denying Brown his seventh win in the Grade 1 turf race. This year, Appleby’s Creative Flair is an 8-1 longshot in the 2022 Diana Stakes odds. Meanwhile Brown has the top four contenders in the six-horse Diana Stakes 2022 field: Bleecker Street (6-5), Rougir (3-1), Technical Analysis (3-1) and In Italian (6-1). Dalika (15-1) rounds out the field.

He also has hit the 19-1 winner of the Man o’ War Stakes, the trifecta in the Pegasus World Cup, the superfecta in the Met Mile and multiple Pick 4s, including May 14’s at Belmont for $1,851. One surprise: Weir is not making 6-5 morning-line favorite Bleecker Street his top choice. A perfect 7-for-7 in her career, Bleecker Street will be making her sixth straight start without a break since January. This will be her first start on the Saratoga turf course, which doesn’t suit every horse.
In addition, Bleecker Street will be facing the toughest field of her career; her foes have combined for 24 wins in 66 starts. “Bleecker Street seemingly improves with every race, but her price will finally catch up with her Saturday,” Weir says. He prefers another horse over Bleecker Street.
