Benfica are reportedly certain that star striker Goncalo Ramos will leave the club in the summer transfer window, with Newcastle United one of the sides interested in the Portuguese international.
According to A Bola, the Primeira Liga leaders already believe that the 21-year-old ‘sensation’ is heading for the exit after a sensational season for club and country, with Ramos scoring 22 goals and bagging eight assists in all competitions for Benfica as well as hitting a hat-trick in the 2022 FIFA World Cup for Portugal.
With a release clause of €120m (£107m), Benfica will be hopeful that their striking hero will leave for a fee of around this ballpark, with interest mounting for the attacker after such an incredible year, and Newcastle are one of the club’s keen on signing the forward.
Dean Jones has recently reported that the Magpies, alongside a slew of Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Leeds United, are all chasing Ramos, who now looks set to leave Benfica come to the end of this season.
Indeed, with a goalscoring record as good as Ramos’, it makes sense why the forward wants to leave Benfica to test himself in a better division, and a move to the Premier League looks certain given how many top clubs are interested in the striker ahead of the summer.
As for Newcastle, the Magpies could be in a sensational position to sign the 21-year-old, with Eddie Howe set to splash the cash this summer and the Toon keen to flesh out their squad with quality options, with Ramos a player who could be an excellent long-term striking partner for Alexander Isak.
Ramos has been one of the best attackers in Europe this season, and for an ambitious club like Newcastle, signing such a talent should be a move that will excite supporters and take the team to another new level, something Howe has already done in his short time on Tyneside.
With Ramos primed to leave Benfica, Newcastle could make a statement in the market by signing the attacker ahead of the likes of Arsenal and United, and the forward could be an incredible addition in the Magpies’ long-term plan to dominate football in both England and Europe.
